Duty Location/Campus: Geriatrics and Extended Care Service , North Little Rock Campus, Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System.

Tour of Duty: (15 hours per week) 8:oo a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday - Friday or as neded by the service.

Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS) is seeking a part-time physician who is board certified in Internal Medicine/Family Practice and have Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatrics.

DUTIES:
Incumbent will serve as a member of the Geriatric & Extended Care Service. He/she will be a core team member of an Interdisciplinary Geriatric Team assigned to provide high quality medical care for patients in an inpatient GEM unit as well as providing attending coverage on a rotating basis to any of the following additional GEC programs: outpatient consultation clinics, , Nursing Home Care Unit/ Community Living Center, Inpatient Consult Service, or Adult Day Health Care. The physician is responsible for providing medical expertise in collaboration with other core team members for the assessment and treatment of patients within assigned unit(s) in addition to supervision of Geriatric Fellows, and/or medical students. Incumbent will be required to use the CPRS patient record system to record all treatment of patients and will follow all VA, JCAHO, HIPAA and local regulations and guidelines concerning privacy, documentation and patient care. Incumbent will work cohesively with other staff members to provide a comprehensive team approach to patient care. He/she must be proactive to anticipate and meet the needs of patients, family members, and external customers. Incumbent may be assigned limited early/late call rotations. This position offers significant opportunity for growth and development and encourages academic appointment and research in preparing for future leadership roles in Geriatric medicine.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Qualification Requirements:

  • Be a US Citizen.
  • Have a degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
  • Possess and maintain a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Be board certified in the field of Internal Medicine/Family Practice and have Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatrics.
  • Be proficient in written and spoken English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7405(f).
